It was very challenging for me to create an image that represents educational technology. I have not spent a lot of time in creating image so I used a template in Piktochart. Here is the formal definition for educational technology:
Educational technology is the study and ethical practice of facilitating learning and improving performance by creating, using, and managing appropriate technological processes and resources. – Elements of the Definition
The goal of educational technology is to facilitate learning and improve student performance. I believe that these goals go hand in hand. As students learn at higher levels they will perform better on their assessments. The goal is not only performance but student learning which is shown through student performance. Technology is to come along side the students learning. Technology does not dictate or control student learning. In order to reach the goals we need to create, use, and manage the technology and its implementation into the classroom. This may include enhancing learning experience through media or simply improving an organizational process. The possibilities and use of technology of endless, but need to be held in check with the goal. To remain on track to achieve the goal of student learning we need to continually analyze the use of technology in education. This is achieved through research studies and update ethical standards. Technology is not the end goal. Student learning is the end goal.
